About Me

Hi, I'm Juveriya.

I'm a counselling psychologist, and I'd love to tell you a bit about how I work, so you know what to expect before we begin.

My Approach

My approach in therapy is integrative. I draw from evidence-based approaches like Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), and mindfulness-based approaches. These are often grouped under what's called third-wave therapies β€” a term for approaches that focus less on getting rid of difficult thoughts and feelings, and more on changing how we relate to them so they have less control over our lives.

Some of our work might involve understanding where certain patterns come from and why they keep showing up. At other times, we'll focus on practical tools and strategies you can use in your day-to-day life. Which direction we take depends on what's most helpful for you at that moment.

I also don't work in isolation. I'm part of a wider network of mental health professionals, including clinical psychologists and psychiatrists. If at any point I feel you'd benefit from additional support alongside therapy, I'll discuss it with you and help connect you with the right professional.

FAQs

Questions before you begin

Starting therapy can come with a lot of unknowns. Here are answers to some of the things clients often ask before their first session.

What age group do you work with?

I work with adolescents (from age 10) and adults (18 and above). For clients under 18, parental or guardian consent is required for consent and intake.

How long are sessions, and what platform do you use?

Individual sessions are 45 minutes long, and couples sessions are 1 hour 15 minutes long. Sessions are conducted online via Google Meet.

How often will sessions take place?

This is quite contextual. Generally, sessions are usually held weekly at the start of therapy. Frequency may reduce as we progress toward termination, depending on your needs and pace. This is something we can decide together.

What can I expect in the first session, especially if I'm not sure what I need help with?

That's completely okay. Many people start therapy without a clear sense of what to expect as an outcome from therapy. The first session is mainly about understanding what's brought you here and what you'd like to work on; there's no pressure to have it figured out beforehand. We can do that together in the session. I'll also send a short intake form after your first session booking to learn a bit about your background.

Can I message you for support between sessions?

Messaging is meant for communication and scheduling, like booking sessions or sharing forms, rather than ongoing support or counselling. Anything you're working through is best held for our sessions, where we can give it the time and space it needs.

What happens if I need to reschedule or miss a session?

Sessions cannot be cancelled, but they can be rescheduled. Reschedule requests made at least 48 hours in advance carry no charge; requests within 48 hours incur a β‚Ή800 fee. The same applies in reverse if I need to reschedule with short notice. Read the full Rescheduling and No-Show Policy.

Will these sessions be confidential?

Yes, everything discussed in session is confidential and not shared with any third party, with a few standard exceptions related to safety, harm, or legal requirements. Please read about Confidentiality & Professional Ethics in more detail.

Do you prescribe medication?

No, I'm not a psychiatrist and don't prescribe medication. If medication seems like it could help, I can refer you to a psychiatrist to work alongside our sessions.

Can I switch therapists if it's not the right fit?

Yes. Finding the right fit matters, and it's okay if that's not me. I'm happy to help you think through next steps or provide a referral if needed.
