This page explains the confidentiality you can expect in our work together, its limits, and the professional and ethical standards I hold myself to as a practicing mental health professional.
Everything you share during therapy sessions is treated as confidential. This is a core ethical and professional obligation which cannot be compromised.
Confidentiality has legal and ethical limits. I may be required to break confidentiality, with or without the client's consent, in the following situations:
Where possible, I will discuss any necessary disclosure with you first.
For clients under the age of 18, a parent or guardian's involvement is required for consent and intake. The confidentiality protections and limits outlined above apply equally to minor clients; however, in certain situations, I may need to share relevant information with a parent or guardian, particularly where safety is a concern.
As a practicing psychologist, I hold myself to the ethical standards set by my profession. This shapes how I work with every client, and it's something you're entitled to understand before beginning therapy.
I work within the limits of my training, experience, and clinical competence. Where a concern falls outside my expertise, such as needing psychiatric evaluation, medication management, or specialized treatment, I will refer you to an appropriate professional rather than attempt to address something beyond my scope.
Your wellbeing is the central priority in our work together. Therapeutic decisions, including pacing, approach, and any referrals, are made with your best interests in mind.
You have the right to understand what therapy involves before beginning, including confidentiality, its limits, fees, and what to expect from the process. You're free to ask questions about my approach, qualifications, or any aspect of how I work, at any point in our work together.
I provide care without discrimination on the basis of religion, caste, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or any other personal characteristic.
I maintain clear professional boundaries with all clients. This includes avoiding conflicts of interest, refraining from relationships outside the therapeutic context that could compromise objectivity, and ensuring the therapeutic relationship remains the sole basis of our interaction.
You are free to end therapy or seek a second opinion or referral at any time, without needing to justify that decision. If you choose to do so, I'm happy to support that transition, including providing a referral if helpful.
Where appropriate and necessary for your care, I may consult with other professionals or seek clinical supervision. In such cases, your identity and identifying details are protected, and only the clinical information necessary for consultation is shared.
I hope you've read through the document before booking a session. In case of queries, please email me at therapywithjuveriya@gmail.com.
